Cambourne is well on the way to having its own cinema thanks to a generous donation of £10,000 from West Cambourne developers Taylor Wimpey and Vistry.
The joint donation was provided to help fund a high-quality projector for Cambourne Community Cinema.
In a ceremony held at Cambourne Village College (CVC) in October, Bryn Maidman, managing director of Taylor Wimpey East Anglia and James Shuttleworth, managing director of Vistry Northern Home Counties region, handed the cheques to Lynn Mayes, principal of CVC and members of the Cambourne Village College Trust.
Speaking at the event, Lynn Mayes said: “This generous donation has been an important step forward on the path to opening and running a community cinema in Cambourne.”
The proposed cinema will be located in the magnificent new Sixth Form Lecture Theatre at CVC.
Taylor Wimpey’s Bryn Maidman said: “We’re proud to have been able to support Cambourne Village College Charitable Trust with its plans to open a community cinema.”
James Shuttleworth from Vistry added: “This exciting new space will provide a great place for families and residents to come together and enjoy education and entertainment right here in Cambourne.”
Following the donation, the trust has now raised £30,000 towards the £35,000 cost of a projector. A further £35,000 is needed to provide a surround-sound system and electrically operated curtains for the screen.

The trust is currently looking for two more trustees to complement the existing members and a person with the skills to help create a cinema business / development plan. All positions are voluntary.
