It was great to meet cinema enthusiasts at our ‘Drop-In’ session at The Hub on Thursday 16 November and to sign up more prospective members of the Cambourne Village College Charitable Trust.
This group is working towards providing an independent community cinema for Cambourne, to be based within the new Sixth Form Centre on the Village College campus.
Many small independent cinemas operate on a model whereby the latest box-office hits are streamed at smaller venues just weeks after their main release. We have the opportunity to create such a venue here in Cambourne, with free parking, refreshments and facilities similar to those in a smaller multiplex cinema.
Praised by one attendee at The Hub event as ‘a bright and beautiful idea for our community’, this new venture could support cinema clubs and run films appealing to a wide range of tastes, including live transmission of West End plays, ballet and opera.
We’re keen to hear from everyone who would like to see a cinema in Cambourne, so we know there is the community interest to sustain our own venue.
